Addressing a dual gap

Together with the skills’ gap, there is a lack of fast-track, practical, training programs in an array of specialised professions that many businesses need. In addition, apprenticeships are rare, vocational training is among the lowest in the EU, and youth seems disinterested. At the same time, graduate unemployment is the second highest in Europe. That means that there are opportunities for junior graduate talent to become skilled in accordance with companies’ needs and enhance their professional prospects.

Skills4Jobs strives to bridge this dual gap by identifying appropriate    candidates across the country, training them in hard and soft skills           suggested by the participating companies, and connecting them directly with local HR departments. The service is exclusively available to members of SEV and the affiliated regional and sectoral associations.

SEV echoes the experience of several other European countries when      they point to the difficulties faced by attempts to expand the practice of apprenticeships. Skills4Jobs aims to widen its sectoral, and geographic    scope as an integral part of SEV’s efforts to underline the importance of apprenticeships, re- and upskilling and highlight their opportunities and benefits.
